In a bold and strategic move, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that anti-Naxalite operations will continue uninterrupted during the monsoon season. The announcement comes as a clear signal that the government is intensifying its commitment to eradicating left-wing extremism, particularly in regions still affected by Maoist influence.
Operations Will Not Halt Due to Rain
While traditionally monsoon season has posed operational challenges—ranging from difficult terrain and limited visibility to logistical constraints—Shah asserted that advancements in technology, equipment, and intelligence gathering have enabled security forces to function even in harsh weather conditions.
“Come rain or storm, our fight against Maoist terrorism will continue. The monsoon will not slow down our mission to secure every inch of this country,” Shah declared during a press briefing in New Delhi.
Focus Areas: Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha
Sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed that intensive surveillance and ground operations are being sustained in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh, southern parts of Jharkhand, and parts of Odisha and Maharashtra—all of which have seen sporadic Maoist activity in recent months.
CRPF, COBRA, and State Forces are operating in coordinated missions.
Special drone units and satellite surveillance are providing 24x7 mapping of forest movements.
Road and communication infrastructure development is being expedited to reduce Maoist mobility.
Monsoon Tactics and Technology Deployment
The MHA revealed that specialized all-terrain vehicles, rain gear, and radar surveillance have been deployed to ensure personnel safety and mission efficiency. Additionally, mobile base camps have been established closer to conflict-prone areas, enabling faster reaction time to any insurgent movements.
Background: A Growing Offensive
This development follows a series of successful operations earlier this year, including:
The April 2025 Dantewada encounter, which resulted in the neutralization of 13 top Maoist operatives.
Seizure of arms and explosives caches in remote forested zones.
Surrender of several mid-level cadres due to growing pressure and local outreach.
Home Minister’s Message to the Nation
Shah reaffirmed the government’s dual approach of relentless security action and grassroots development, stating:“We are not just fighting guns with guns—we are offering roads, schools, jobs, and peace. Those who abandon the path of violence will be welcomed into mainstream society.”
Public Safety and Local Support
Local administrations are working closely with tribal communities to ensure safety and access to basic services during operations. Civil society groups have largely supported the government’s firm stand, praising the focus on ending decades of fear and underdevelopment in affected regions.
